Nothing Says Shabby Chic Like An Antique Brass Chandelier, Unless It’s A Crystal Chandelier
A brass chandelier or a crystal chandelier hanging in a thoughtfully decorated living space is like the candles stuck in the icing on your favorite birthday cake, glowing beautifully with a sense of pride, celebration and accomplishment. Every time you look up at it, you should make a wish. It’s also very shabby chic!
Remember when people started talking about shabby chic?
The style started in England, in homage to large country houses with rooms full of worn and faded old chintz sofas, floral curtains, chipping paint and antique crystal or brass chandeliers. The idea is to create an elegant overall effect that isn’t too frou-frou, a beautiful space you can actually live in, curl up on the sofa with a book, tucking your feet underneath you.
Recycling old furniture and fabrics is an important aspect of the look, and new pieces, such as that perfect brass chandelier (because real old ones can have electrical problems) chosen must have tons of character and fit in with the vintage pieces. The original shabby chic interiors were considered in themselves works of art, and we see no reason why that should stop!
